Internship Programme

Overview

The objective of the Internship Programme is to provide short-term work experience at minimal cost to the employer so that young people emerging from tertiary institutions gain practical experience of a working environment and become accustomed to a commercial enterprise.
By taking on interns, not only do the companies and institutions open doors of opportunity to qualified, capable and enthusiastic young people, but as host organizations they too benefit form the programme.

CEO’s comments

The internship initiative reflects our and the participating companies sense of responsibility to help promising young Batswana to become business leaders in their field of interest and bring out the best in them.
There are a lot of qualified, capable and enthusiastic young people out there and they deserve to be given a chance to explore their potential and capabilities.
We want to grow the programme. We encourage companies to contribute directly to the experience and exposure for young Batswana, to give them the opportunity to develop their skills.
We are heartened by the positive feedback and support from companies, interns and from members of the public.

BENEFITS TO THE EMPLOYER

Tax Concession
Income Tax Training Regulations (2007) were brought in operation through Section 44 of the Income tax Act 2002 which allows for a 200% deduction from chargeable income of any expenditure incurred by a person during training approved by the Commissioner of Botswana Unified Revenue Service in accordance with prevailing rules.
Please note that in order to qualify for the 200% deduction from chargeable income, applicants must seek approval from Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) and/or Tertiary Education Council (TEC). For on-the-job training (work experience), vocational training, and any other training up to certificate level, applicants must seek approval from BOTA. Applicants should seek approval from TEC for training in respect of diploma, degree or higher training.

No Recruiting

Engaging interns through the Internship Program is a simple process. Companies can request that the IFSC and its designated recruitment agencies forward names of suitable candidates. Through the experience 4 years of operating the program, the IFSC is confidently able to select young people of demonstrated ability and positive attitude.

No Illusions

IFSC fully briefs prospective interns on the personal responsibilities of employment. Experience has shown hat interns are well aware of the career openings placed before them and they apply themselves accordingly.
The period of internship is a minimum of three months to ensure that the program is meaningful to both the employer and the intern. Remuneration is expected to be a modest stipend.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The internship program allows companies to give back to the community. The progamme is also a social responsibility initiative.
